These make great and affordable gifts for your friends.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
A paper cutter (optional. If you don’t own one of these then scissors and a ruler will suffice), a stapler, ruler, pen and some nice paper for the cover.
Cut your paper into strips 2 and a half inches wide. Decide whether you want your notebook to have 8 pages or 16. For 8, use two strips. For 16 pages, use 4 pages.
Fold your 2 or 4 strips in half and cut down the fold. Then fold these in half. Do not cut down the middle. Now you have your inside ready, you need to cut the cover.
Once you have cut your cover, turn your booklet over and staple the pages and cover together from the back as shown below.
Now it’s time to decorate the cover.
I used stamps from Kikki. K for a few notebooks.

The world’s up-and-coming “it girl” is taking things into her own hands and redefining what it takes to be an “it” girl in the harsh fashion industry in her new book “IT”. But who is this short-haired beauty you may ask? Well, here is a brief profile introducing cheeky English fashionista Alexa Chung.
English television presenter, model and contributing editor at British Vogue
Who is her fashion inspiration?
"Jane Birkin inspires me daily. When I’m tempted to dress too sexy, I think of her and am reminded that true style comes from within".
How do you make your closet more like Alexa’s?
Fill it with jeans, band T-shirts, cable-knit cardigans, way too many blazers, cute black ankle boots covered with buckles or straps or studs.
If she’s such a fashionista, then how come she hasn’t kick-started any fashion trends?!
Oh, but she has! Under her belt, Alexa has fashion trends like kitty flats, pinafores, nautical outerwear and many others.
Didn’t she date Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner?
For more than four years! Despite their break-up in 2011, Alexa has stated that the two remain best friends.
"Not everything happens for a reason. Sometimes life just sucks".

Social media. Bringing lives together or tearing them apart?
When social media sites were first introduced to the world, nobody really took any notice. Gradually though, the amount of people that were joining these sites began to increase, and numbers of humans that were active on social media grew to outstanding numbers. Now, with the invention of smart phones, there have been many more ways introduced to have the ability to go on these sites at anytime, anywhere. But is this always a good thing?
According to new research, the more time you spend on ‘social’ sites, the less social you really are. But how could this be? Wouldn’t you think that if you spent ‘x’ amount of time on these applications, you would really be increasing the amount of time speaking to others? Well, no. The clever marketing ploy that companies tell their unsuspecting customers, is that by going on these sites you are becoming more social and able to keep up with the events around you, when in reality you are becoming more and more distant from the current affairs that really matter.
Social media has had a profound impact on the way people talk to and view each other, as a recent survey showed that people find it easier to say whatever they want on social media without thinking about the consequences, whereas people are finding it harder to have meaningful conversations with others in real life. As many people have the misconception that you can say whatever they want in the safe environment of the internet, less thought goes into what you are saying to others. An interesting video to watch based on this topic is Smartphones.
One of the saddest things I see daily is the amount of friendship groups who are all sitting around, on their phones on social media. Why be on social media when you have a chance to be social right in front of you? These holidays, try to talk to someone. Do not spend all your time on your phone, because everything is happening around you when you are staring at a screen. Go outside, do something, play, write or read. Climb a tree. Build a pillow fort. I guarantee in 10 years time you won’t remember that picture Ashley posted on facebook, but you will remember the fun you had doing something productive.

Gift Ideas: Showing Your Inner Creativity
Above is a painting I did for my Grandma, it’s only small, and took me a few hours to do. But if you’re looking for DIYs this christmas, then look no further!
So as we all know, christmas is fast approaching and sometimes it’s hard to find the money, time and ideas for gifts! I am currently struggling when it comes to funds, so my mum suggested I paint things for some of my family members. I thought this was a great idea and although i am an amateur when it comes to painting, i still thoroughly enjoy it.
I find the best way to go about painting that is also affordable and easily accessed, is to go with paper or canvas, and acrylic paints (the above painting uses 2 pieces of sketch paper glued together to strengthen the pages, and acrylic paints).
Here are a few brief steps to take to create your masterpiece.
- Find your materials - paper, canvas, paints, paintbrushes - and organise them into a box (or similar) so they are all in the one spot which will help you avoid loosing bits and pieces.
- Clear a space at a table or flat surface and cover with newspaper.
- PAINTSHIRT!!! No matter how cautious or clean you think you’ll be, you’re always going to get dirty, so wear old clothes or something you don’t mind getting painted on.
- Get inspired! Find ideas for your artwork in the environment around you, google search, or read books to fuel your mind.
- Sketch a brief plan of your artwork in pencil first, so you have a rough idea of size and composition.
- Paint! Now you are ready to go! Express yourself and have fun!
*Remember* your artwork is yours, go with the flow and do whatever you want. If you want purple hotdogs; you paint purple hotdogs. Or people with ears for eyes or a horse without legs. Don’t let people criticise you for your fantastical imagination!
One last thing - if you’re stuck for ideas take a look at this pintrest article, it’s sure to get the juices flowing.
Merry Christmas and happy painting!

The impact Nelson Mandela had on the world
If you’re not sure about who Mandela is, read our article written to find out more about him.
I had the amazing opportunity to talk to people that knew him, and talked to him before and I found it beautiful because one of them just had one conversation with him, but she speaks as if she knew him forever.
This is what some people said about Nelson Mandela.
'I believe that God sends a few people every so often to come to this world to change it significantly for the better. Nelson Mandela was one of them. I was speaking to some fishermen a few years ago, and when I brought up his name, the fishermens eyes lit up brighter than the sun behind us.'
‘I worked with him in the UWC movement a long time ago, and I had learned so much from those few months than I did my whole life. The way he speaks just moved me. ‘
'He may be an icon to some people, he may also be someone who changed the world for some people. He may also be a terrorist to some people. But to me, he is a person. He is a person that had the drive none of us did, and this led him to change the world for the better. '
Rest In Peace, Nelson Mandela. You will be among the stars in the sky. You have changed so many lives.

Today, the world lost an amazing man. He was the voice of many who had a difficult time speaking up for themselves. He was against discrimination and apartheid. Apartheid was a system of racial segregation; separating the ‘black’, ‘white’, ‘colored’ and Indians. Some were deprived of the rights the others would have and others would have more privileges and advantages for the sole reason of racial discrimination.
Nelson Mandela died at the age of 95. With his death, South Africa lost one of it’s own brilliant sons. We have every reason to mourn but that shouldn’t mean we shouldn’t recall all that he’s done and how much of an inspiration and a hero he was to the billions of people in the world.
"In my country we go to prison first and then become President." - Nelson Mandela
• Mandela was the South Africa’s first ‘black’ president. Just that, says a lot already. He also served 27 years of his life in prison for protesting and going against South African apartheid.
"I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." - Nelson Mandela
• Not only was he fighting for what he believed in, but he also became a sign of peace and he hope. He fought for the freedom he knew everyone deserved. He fought for what was right. He fought against discrimination. Even though it came with its consequences, he was still brave enough to not give up. That is what makes him such a great man.
“No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background or his religion. People learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than it’s opposite.” - Nelson Mandela
• I don’t even have any words for this, this is such a smart thing to say and I will forever remember this.
"It always seems impossible until its done." - Nelson Mandela
• This is very true, especially in his case. To many, inspiring billions and fighting against the government for what you believe in seems impossible. But Nelson did and he succeeded. He proved that the impossible was possible.
Rest in the peace that you have left us with, Nelson Mandela. The world is so thankful for you and what you have done.

The perfect ‘Do’
If you are a woman, you will understand the daily struggle of making our hair “perfect”. You may never be satisfied with the final turnout, and feel self consious about how you look all day. However, according to new research, the haistyle you have really makes a difference to your looks, and the secret is the way your haircut frames your face.
According to SheKnows.com, face shapes are put into these main categories;
- Round - Face is as wide as it is long.
- Oval Face - Length equal to one and a half times width.
- Heart - Narrow at jawline, wide at forehead and cheekbones.
- Square - Forehead, jawline and cheekbones are almost equal in width.
Round faces are beautiful, classical shapes, however they can be very hard to style for. Layered bangs are a nice way to make your face appear slimmer, however watch out for straight or heavy set bangs as they can do the opposite. Short pixie cuts can compliment rounded cheeks, but some short cuts are not as flattering so always ask a professional before doing anything drastic with your hair. Longer hair that is kept closer to the sides of your face is a classy way to add length to your face and it makes your cheekbones stand out.
Hairstyles such as Halle Berry’s signature pixie cut are a real standout for oval faces. Also, If you have any pieces of hair that fall over your face, pulling them back into a less extreme ‘Snooki’ hairstyle can really make oval faces pop. For a more subtle look, try shoulder lengs waves. This style really gives an elegant yet modern look to any face.
A perfect example of the heart shape would be Reese Witherspoon. With a more prominent forehead and a pointy, narrow chin, hairstyles that should be avoided are slicked back ponytails or bobs that are shorter than the jawline. Bangs are definitaly the best style for framing the heart shape, as they take the attention away from the chin and make the forehead less noticable. Again, shoulder length bobs are a beautiful look.
As square jaws are very strong, angularshapes, they are most suited to soft waves as to not make your face too strong. Layered bobs are lovely styles for these shapes, and long layered styes. Pigtails make a very cute addition!

In our crazy ever changing, mysterious solar system, there are a few things we humans have discovered. We can cook pasta, mass produce clothes and send rockets into the unknown. But did you know that in the White House there are 13092 forks, knives and spoons? I bet you didn’t. Having a few crazy interesting little known facts ready to pull out of your pocket will impress anyone and save you from some otherwise awkward silences.
- Most lipsticks contain fish scales. ??yuk?!
- The oldest known goldfish lived to 41 years of age. Its name was Fred.
- When snakes are born with two heads, they fight each other for food.
- your heart beats over 100,000 times a day.
- There are more chickens than people in the world.
- The worlds oldest piece of chewing gum is 9000 years old.
- The word “samba” means “to rub navels together.”
- Peanuts are one of the ingredients of dynamite.
- Only one person in two billion will live to be 116 or older. (I’m gonna be that one in two billion just you wait and see.)
- mosquitos have teeth. WHAT?!!!
- People say “Bless you” when you sneeze because when you sneeze, your heart stops for a mili-second.
- If you try to suppress a sneeze, you can rupture a blood vessel in your head or neck and die. (no more miss polite I’ll try not to sneeze during this funeral)
- In the Durango desert, in Mexico, there’s a creepy spot called the “Zone of Silence.” You can’t pick up clear TV or radio signals. And locals say fireballs sometimes appear in the sky. (spoooooky)
- Human birth control pills work on gorillas. (pay attention this could come in handy someday)
- Cats often rub up against people and furniture to lay their scent and mark their territory. They do it this way, as opposed to the way dogs do it, because they have scent glands in their faces. (damn and I thought my cat loved me)
- The female lion does ninety percent of the hunting. (Yeah you go girls)
- On average, 12 newborns will be given to the wrong parents daily. (:o)
- Donald Duck comics were banned from Finland because he doesn’t wear any pants.
On that disturbing note I will say adieu
December 5, 2013
Someday, I want to be able to wake up and think ‘I feel like getting up and flying to Mexico,’ and I’ll be able to do it. Free of charge, no rules, I can just get up, get dressed and take the earliest train out. I hate the fact that we have to pay to explore the world. I know that there are reasons why we can’t just keep hopping from one city to another, but I’d really love to be able to do that. The world is our home. A lot of people don’t have the privilege to travel and that breaks my heart. I want everyone to be able to see how beautiful the world really is. I want travelling to be as simple as walking across the street to the grocery. It frustrates me how much money it costs to see everything there is out there and how most people are limited to exploring their small towns instead of learning about new cultures, walking on foreign soil, and meeting exotic people.
I wish that school didn’t consist of long lectures, confined in a usually boring, plain classroom, but instead, I want us to learn by seeing new places. I want us to learn by experiencing things at interesting places, never forgetting any detail about the ancient civilizations because you’d be able to see where they lived by flying to the ruins with your classmates and teachers, being able to understand architecture better with the all the Greek structures standing right in front of you, writing amazing poetry because you can feel the words coming to you as the wind tangles in your hair, glancing up at the brilliant orange sunset above New York City.
I want to explore. I want for everyone to open their eyes. I want us all to fall in love with the world.

LETS TALK MANGO
Finally, after 3 seasons without, the magnificent yet humble mango has finally returned for those that live in the Southern Hemisphere! So to celebrate today I’m going to share with you a delicious and healthy recipe to a raw mango “cheesecake” thanks to www.themindfulfoodie.com
Mango, lime and coconut raw cheesecake
1½ cups almonds, ground into a coarse meal (or 2 cups almond meal)
7 dates, pitted and chopped
1 tbsp coconut oil, extra for greasing tin
pinch of sea salt
Line a 22cm round springform tin with baking paper and grease the sides with coconut oil.
Pulse all the ingredients in a food processor until combined. Tip into prepared tin and press the base evenly across the bottom and up the sides. Refrigerate while preparing the filling.
flesh of 4 ripe mangoes, chopped
1½ cups raw cashews, soaked for at least 2 hours
1 cup coconut butter
juice of 2 limes
2 tbsp maple syrup, or to taste (this is optional. I didn’t use any, as the cake was sweet enough for me)
Except for the maple syrup, process together all ingredients on high speed, until you have a silky, smooth texture. (You will need a high-powered processor.)
Taste for sweetness. If you’d like it sweeter, add the maple syrup and process until it’s mixed through.
Pour filling into the chilled base. Refrigerate overnight before serving. It will have a slightly mousse like texture. For a firmer texture, freeze for about 3 hours of hours, and then let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving.

Different types of love
There are lots of types of love, from my experience. I am not sure about how it is for you, but this is how I usually feel.
The quick love
One conversation, one look, and you already love them. You keep on thinking of them everyday, and you already sort of know that you love/like him.
The slow love
Theyre a nobody to you at first- but once you get to know them, you realise that they mean so much to you and that you would want to be in their arms forever.
When both of you don’t know
When everyone knows that you two are flirting, except for you two. When you don’t realise that you two like each other, but everyone else seems to know.
You did not like each other. Maybe s/he even annoyed you so much before. But in a turn of events, you end up loving his/her smile, his laugh, and you just want more and more.
You want to be with them. You want to grab them and kiss them and just love how they look in that v-neck shirt. Not exactly sure whether its love or lust, though…
Best friend to love
You two are the closest things ever, and you don’t thinkanything can get better… until you start to develop feelings for him. You know everything about him, and everything you don’t know about him makes you curious, and you just want that special moment to stay frozen forever.
You realise you love him. Well too late. He either has a girlfriend, he likes someone else, someone else likes him, or blah blah blah. You love him, but you are not sure about how he feels.
Everything in between
You don;t know sometimes. He is everything. You love him, you hate him, its lust and its love. Youre confused, yet you know what you want. You two are either best friends or soulmates. Or maybe both. He drives you insane, because he is everything all at once. You don’t know anything except that you love him.
